You have been trying to promote your blog through Twitter, with every post of yours being auto posted on your Twitter account, posting links on different profiles and constantly commenting on every relevant conversation, but still not getting any results. Are you trying too hard? Or do you need to try harder? Or maybe you are making the mistakes that most blog promoters on Twitter do…you are forgetting that it is opinionated humans, and not robots that you are trying to attract.
So if you are not getting the results that you wanted by promoting your blog on Twitter, may be it is time to try a more human approach with the tips given below:
Act Like A Person, Not A Bot: A bot will only post links to your blog on Twitter, maybe with some automated text. A person will read what the others are saying about a certain topic and react to it with comments, ideas and opinions, of course while posting any relevant link backs to his or her blog.
Control Your Autoposting: If all your work on Twitter is done by Twitterfeed, and you are still wondering why nobody is following your links, then it time to think again. Any Twitter profile that looks simply like a collection of links is treated by most people as spam.
Post When People Are Online: If you post at a time when your primary audience is not online, or respond to tweets very late, then your Tweets might be getting old when your target audience logs in. Instead, try and post when your audience is online—both on your blog as well as on Twitter.
Start Posting Relevant Links: Marketing your blog on Twitter does not mean that you just put the link to your latest post in a Tweet. Rather, you will get to see results only when you post a relevant link, to any of your past or present blog posts, when you start making sensible replies to connected Tweets and then put in a link in between.
Make It Interesting: Not just having an interesting and compelling blog, but also having compelling Tweets is important if you plan to get an audience through Twitter. Say things that are meaningful, interesting and entertaining or informative. A link attached to such a Tweet is bound to get more traffic than a Tweet that is all link and no substance.
Do Not Spam: Hogging the whole conversation with your comments and link backs and not letting anybody get a word in is not the way you will be able to compel people to come visit your blog. Neither will begging them to do it( please visit my blog…please please please) get you any long term traffic. Remember that providing quality, over a long period of time, is the only way that you will be able to build up traffic to your blog, through Twitter, or through any other means!

Hey Isabel!
Great information about blogging on Twitter; I can vouch for it all. It’s very true.
I’ve had success by finding several (maybe 12-15) different bloggers that are heavy Twitter users, and basically networking with them and we all tend to retweet each other’s work. It works, since each of us has slightly different following.
The thing about Twitter is that it’s easy to assume that everyone keeps their Twitter account up all day, and sees everything you post. It’s important to get into the habit of tweeting your stuff more than once, and more than one day. Several really good Twitter users do this – they cycle through their posts, even on days when they are not blogging. And always tweet other people’s stuff more than our own!
Cheers,
Tia

Thanks Tia for your comment. I do agree with what you said. We need to tweet other people’s stuff more than ours
To be honest I have found it quite hard to get traffic through Twitter and to utilize it right. I never automated anything for Twitter, I did everything manually. It also doesn’t feel natural when I “try to Twitter”. I mean I literally have to force myself to do it. What do you think?

Thanks Julius,
Yes it might be a bit difficult to get results from twitter immediately. However once you have a strong profile I believe you can get the necessary traffic. However I too feel blogging is not just tweeting there are many more aspects that contribute to the success of your blog.
