When I started out in the big bold world of blogging, I had very high expectations from my blog. I wanted my blog to be visited by thousands of people each day who can fill it with comments that could elevate my spirits. I started off on an optimistic note and came up with information that people can really benefit from. However, I was in for a shock. One week post launching the blog, visitors just trickled through and there was just no comment that I could take pride in! The days that followed were just worse.
It is at this point I realized that I was missing a very crucial factor. While my content was definitely engaging, the blog post titles were really not doing a good job. They failed to evoke the interest in the reader to read more. Thus began my quest to find out how to come up with post titles that can keep the reader engaged. The points that I unearthed during my search for this information proved to be very highly beneficial. In just a couple of weeks of implementing them, I could drive the desired traffic to my blog and today, I just can never get tired of reading all those positive comments left back by the readers.
I am sure there are hundreds of people who want to know more about crafting a post title that can keep the reader interested. This is the best platform for me to reach out to all of you and tell you what worked well for me.
While creating a blog post title, it is imperative that you consider the benefit of the readers. If you want to get the readers to read on, then, you will have to show them the benefit. Your title of the blog post is supposed to do this job for you because this is what your potential audience will see through RSS feeds or on Google result lists. So, when you write the title, keep it clear, concise and ensure it speaks volumes about the benefit of the blog post.
Another great way of evoking an interest in your readers is by posting a title that can encourage a debate. Look out for controversial topics (not sensitive issues) and start a conversation around it. Be prepared to read strong comments from your readers. This strategy is not for the people who break down at the fall of a pin. You should be able to read and comprehend the comments of the readers and respond through your blog if needed.
One of the reasons the blog posts fail to attract readers is because they lack words that have the power and punch in them. Let us take an example, consider the following titles “tips to keep your skin clear” and “discovering the secrets of clear skin”. Alright, which do you think appealed to you more? I am the second title would have won unanimously. And why not? The second title has power words like “discover” and “secrets” which can lure even the most selective readers.
In addition to this, you can also consider inducing humor in the titles and personalize them. Most important of all, DON’T RUSH! Crafting a title needs a good amount of thought and time. Put in this effort and you will not be let down.
